Mechanical Design Engineer

The role will be based at our site in Science Park in Antrim.
The Role:
- To aid in the design and development of Clinical Chemistry Analysers.
- Develop and design concepts based on User Requirements.
- Contribute to the development of Functional Requirements Specifications based on User Requirements and approved concept designs.
- Develop mechanical designs from concept to prototype and completed system design.
- Working within a multi-disciplinary team, clearly communicate requirements to other team members to ensure all development and testing is co-ordinated appropriately.
- Work alongside other engineering disciplines and scientists to ensure designs are rigorously tested, verified, and validated.
- Identify appropriately specified Commercial off-the-shelf products for use within a design.
- Liaise with external design / manufacturing companies on technical specifications and project progress when appropriate.
- Liaise with Purchasing Department on the identification and evaluation of suitable suppliers.
- Generate and maintain technical documentation, specifically, but not limited to, mechanical drawings, work instructions, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Bill of Materials, etc.
- Conduct, review, and revise FMEA for module designs.
- Contribute to risk / hazard analysis for products under development and released.
- Report on status of projects / designs, both orally and in written format.
- For both products under development and released products, contribute to design change when necessary, ensuring that design change is managed in a controlled way.
- Ensure all systems are designed to a high quality, ensuring compliance with appropriate internal procedures and European and International standards.
- Conduct and contribute to design reviews.
- Assist in training of company staff in the manufacture and service of developed systems.
- Adherence to the company’s Positive Work Environment policies, Health & Safety procedures, and the maintenance of a safe working environment.
The Candidate:
Essential:
- Possess a higher-level qualification in Mechanical / Design Engineering, or related engineering discipline, or be able to demonstrate appropriate industrial experience.
- Experience using 3D Computer Aided Design software, ideally SolidWorks.
- Desire to learn and explore new technologies.
Desirable:
- Experience of mechanism design and experience with motion or robotic systems.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture principles.
- Knowledge of ISO13485, IEC:EN61010, and Food and Drug Administration guidance for the development of Medical Devices.
