Reporting to the Head of Heritage & Archive, the Cataloguer will conduct research and produce technical and descriptive metadata relating to digitised materials and manage the migration of this information to Northern Ireland Screen’s Content Management System, ensuring that the content is made available to the public via the Digital Film Archive website www.digitalfilmarchive.net.

In particular, they will focus on cataloguing broadcast materials relating to the Ulster Television archive. Established in 1959, UTV was the first commercial broadcaster on the island. Post-1969, whilst many broadcasters fixated on depictions of The Troubles, Ulster Television took care to document the breadth of everyday experience in Ireland, North and South. Whilst a regional focus – not least on news and current affairs – has been the foundation of the station’s success, its output over the years has been impressively diverse, with long-running contributions in the areas of entertainment, factual and children’s television.

The Cataloguer will be responsible for ensuring the UTV Archive content is catalogued and made publicly available on a consistent and scheduled basis. They will also work with Heritage & Archive Department colleagues to prioritise, select and catalogue materials for access and public engagement purposes – education, wellbeing, and cultural use.
